Principles of Effective Studying

Effective Studying

We are not going to give you a theoretical piece of information, which you can easily find elsewhere on the Internet. Here are some simple rules for effective studying proved by experience of generations of students, and which will never lose their actuality. They will help you to write better original essays and improve your performance overall.

1.Principle of Understanding

You may already know that knowing something is not enough. You should be aware of how to apply your knowledge in practice, and, eventually, you will need to understand what you are learning. What if we tell you, that it is useless to learn facts by heart? Instead, spend your time to see the “cause and effect” lines, to understand how it actually works and get the context. This will not aid you in memorizing, but will help you to predict the course of actions/process for future. This is how analytics works.

2.Principle of Logics

Do you know the saying “a talented person is talented in everything?” This is not about some divine gift or the specific combination of genes from the very birth. The thing is that the person uses logics to deal with things. Knowing some logical basis, you will be able to succeed in any subject you choose to study. Furthermore, you will be able to discuss some points that you do not even know, and produce some good ideas on that. So, do not blame the nature in not giving you a talent, but develop it through your logics!

3.Principle of a Cucumber

Pickled Cucumbers

Even though it sounds weird, we will elaborate on this for you to understand. What happens if you put a regular cucumber into a can with pickled salty cucumbers? Right, it will become salty sooner or later as well. What do we want to illustrate by this principle? Attendance of lectures matters. Even if you do not understand something well, or even do not listen, your presence in an auditory of other “salty” (understanding and educated) students and a professor, will make you “salty” (educated) sooner or later. This may explain to you why some professors are strict about attendance: they know things.

4.Principle of Cooperation

No doubt that professor and his personal point of view is authoritative in an audience. However, you should not feel like you are ruled by someone. Take your studies as a cooperation of you, your group mates and a professor in order to achieve a common aim: a team of well-educated professionals. This will not only make you more motivated, but will help you be more curious and process information better. Moreover, pay attention to working in groups. Modern professors apply this method quite often, but even if they don’t – show an initiative. Meet your fellow students to discuss this or that point and you will see, how effective such discussions are. Different conferences and meetings for scientists prove the effectiveness of such approach. Effective discussions can also take place online. Do not mix up common discussions with copying or getting use of someone else’s work – we are talking about the completely another thing.

As you see, these principles are applicable to any scientific field and for any student, who wants to study and get better at their studies. Think them over and apply. We hope this will make a good contribution to your success.
